The Right Environment for Your Child’s Success
Based on the premise that parents can foster an environment that allows their children to feel and be successful academically, Ms. Poli will include discussions of learning styles, the role of technology, time management, organizational skills, and study skills. Parents will learn how to assist their children with motivation, stress, problem solving, exam preparation and how to improve their critical thinking.
Nurturing Students in the Attention Age: The Parent’s Role in Finding Balance
As social media continues to take on a bigger role in the lives of our children, motivation in academics can take a detour. Parents are invited to attend this presentation to learn tools and strategies that may be effective in helping their children achieve academic success in the era of Facebook, Twitter and Skype. Dotsie Poli will address the learning styles of middle school and high school students and offer ways that parents can help their teens balance between achieving success in school and managing their social lives
The Reluctant Learner: The Parent’s Role
Understanding that motivation is a key to success in school, careers, and life in general, parents are often concerned and frustrated if their child does not seem to be sufficiently motivated when it comes to academics. Attempting to motivate their child, parents may turn to a cycle of punishment, rewards, competition and threats. Such an approach frequently does not motivate the child to do well and can be detrimental the parent-child relationship. Dotsie will present tools and strategies that may be effective in helping a reluctant learner find academic success
